Cylinder with cord and bead handles; accompanied by a copy of an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Description of Cylinder Seal of cream/grey stone, 25 x 11.5 mm. Human figure, holding up large fish 9?), faces huge bird, behind which a stag is standing. The whole scene and deep cutting is typically Syrian c. 2600-2300 B.C. Clearly some mythological events are being portrayed, but this is not a common type and so far we cannot explain it. Condition is fine.'; supplied with a museum-quality impression. 6.6 grams, 25 mm

The item was possibly meant to be what the Romans called a defixio or 'curse tablet', on which the magical malediction was recorded and then shut away (by being tightly rolled up) so that the victim could not find it or change it.
Accompanied by a copy of an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: ' Cylinder seal of Cornelian, 20 x 11 mm. On the right a deity is seated on a throne with a high back decorated with sparkling knobs. This deity holds an unidentified object in one hand while raising the other. Facing stands a worshiper raising the right hand with index finger extended, extending the left and with palm cupped. Between the two figures is a fire-bowl raised on a pole with fire burning in the pan. Three filling motifs serve as a terminal: the lunar crescent, a lozenge-shape, and a fish. This is a Neo-Assyrian seal in late drilled style. c. 750-600 B.C.'; supplied with a museum-quality impression. 4.11 grams, 19 mm

Figures like this one were presented as offerings in the temples, however they were also used in households to protect against evil spirits.
Comprising: a shallow dish and a bowl; bulbous jar with painted decoration to the upper body, top separated; two footed bowls, one with painted decoration; and a squat jar; some repaired. 2.74 kg total, 5-19 cm
