The term 'popinjay' is an old word for 'parrot'. It is associated with the rhyme 'Popinjay, jolly May' this month being seen as the month of love.
With exceptionally detailed facial features, beard and hooded cape with black cap; mounted in lead cames with suspension loop; probably to be identified as Caiaphas from the story of Christ's arrest in the garden of Gethsemane. 139 grams, 15 cm
