Chinese Western Han Bi Disk

Western Han Dynasty, 206 BC-220 AD

A carved calcified jade or ceramic bi funerary disc, to one face a dense pattern of raised bumps neatly arranged in an hexagonal grid pattern between plain inner and outer borders. 166 grams, 11.8cm (4 1/2"). Fine condition, some discolouration.

Provenance
Ex private collection of Mr Masaru Kawachi; acquired in 1971 from Mr Ishiguru, Tokyo, Japan; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no. 10724-175405.
