Egyptian Tripartite Bedside Headrest

New Kingdom, 1550-1070 BC

A wooden headrest formed from three separate carved blocks comprising an ellipsoid base, short stem and crescent upper panel with supporting hands carved to the underside. 328 grams, 21cm (8 1/4"). Fine condition. A rare and important display piece.

Provenance
Property of a French gentleman; previously with Galerie Mariaud de Serres, Paris; formerly in the Lisfranc private collection, Paris, France.

Footnotes
The hieroglyph of the headrest represents wrs 'horizon'.
