WESTERN ASIATIC SPEAR BLADE
3RD-2ND MILLENNIUM B.C.
14 3/4 in. (237 grams, 37.5 cm).

A bronze spearhead, the blade with a flat midrib and of rhomboid section, elongated tang of circular section, the tapering point absent.

PROVENANCE:
Acquired 1980-2015.
Ex Abelita family collection.

LITERATURE:
Cf. Gernez, G., L’armament en métal au Proche et Moyen-Orient: des origines a 1750 av. J.C., Paris, 2007, p.297 vol.I, subtype L2A.c (?), for the type.

FOOTNOTES:
The blade of these spears was quite wide at the base and tapered at the tip. It was often rounded, which suggests that the use was more focused on the sharp properties of the weapon.
