THRACIAN SILVER INSCRIBED LOTUS PHIALE

Circa 5th-4th century BC. A repoussé moulded lotus bowl or phiale of exquisite workmanship, its central omphalos domed internally and the wide rim flared and rolled, with inverted base, inscribed externally in punched-point Greek characters with the name KOTYOS, and with traces of gilding externally. Silver, 125 grams, 160 mm diameter.

Extremely fine condition.

From an old English collection.
