VIKING SILVER INLAID AXEHEAD WITH BEASTS
9TH-10TH CENTURY A.D.

An iron axehead, triangular in plan with D-shaped socket, square butt, scooped lower profile and curved edge; to each lateral face a silver plaque inlay with interlace and zoomorphic motifs. 4 1/2 in. (172 grams, 11.4 cm). [No Reserve]

PROVENANCE:
Private collection formed in Europe in the 1980s.
Westminster collection, central London, UK.
