Byzantine Seal of Theophanes

9th-10th century AD

A seal of Theophanes, obverse with a facing bust of Theotokos (Mother of God) with Emmanuil (Christ) inscribed in a medallion on her breast, both raising hands in orans gesture, dressed in a chiton and her head covered with a phelonion; reverse with legend in four lines. 7.34 grams, 23mm (1"). Fine condition. [No Reserve]
