Western Asiatic Post Akkadian Cylinder Seal with Robed Figures Beside Table

23rd-21st century BC

A green serpentine cylinder seal, drilled vertically for suspension; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a typed and signed scholarly note issued by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'On the left is a seated figure on an angular stool raising one hand. On the right is a standing figure raising one hand. Both wear long robes. Between them is a table with a bread on top. There is a crescent in the sky and a tree or branch as a terminal. This is a Post Akkadian seal from southern Mesopotamia, c. 2200-2100 B.C. It is joined from fragments, but is complete and save for the breaks in good condition.' 5.7 grams, 21mm (1"). Fine condition.

Provenance
The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 1924; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by the Professor.
