Western Asiatic Neo-Assyrian Cylinder Seal with Banquet Scene

9th-7th century BC

A large carved mottled green jasper Neo-Assyrian cylinder seal with banquet scene; an attendant, wearing a fringed robe, holding in his right raised hand a flag-shaped fan and, in the left, a towel hanging down, stands facing the bearded king who is similarly attired, holds a cup, and is seated on a backed chair; between the figures is a fish on a table with cattle feet; behind the enthroned king a second attendant in a same robe holds in his left hand a small canopy over the head of his master, above, between the figures are a crescent, a star and the Pleiades, line borders at top and bottom; accompanied by a museum quality seal impression. 15.3 grams, 40mm (1 1/2"). Fine condition.

Provenance
From a private Belgian collection; previously part of a private collection formed in Germany in the 1990s.
