MEDIEVAL AND ROMAN ARTEFACT GROUP

A mixed group of artefacts comprising: a Roman copper-alloy lock with ring-and-dot decoration; a Roman bronze vessel with strainer handle, repaired; a cast bronze medieval prick spur with tripod fastening, pierced at the outer ends for attachment; a 12th century AD iron prick spur with asymmetrical attachment points, the shank conical with a narrow collar (Type 10), the yoke pointed and carinated, one terminal with two holes and the other with a transverse loop. Iron, copper-alloy and bone, 80 grams total, spur 126 mm. [4]

Fine condition.

Provenance
From an old English collection, the lock excavated from Reading golf course.
