Georgian Jewelled Brooch

18th century AD

A silver-gilt brooch comprising a standing angel with wings spread holding a discoid cell with sapphire cabochon above a rectangular panel with inset ruby; suspension loop and two lateral loops; lateral cells with ruby, pearl and sapphire cabochons, enamelled tendrils to the rear and teardrop dangle with a facetted aquamarine; pin and catch to the reverse; old silk-lined leather case. 57 grams total, brooch: 64mm (2 1/2"). Fine condition, some enamel chipped, angel loose.

Provenance
From the private collection of a Russian gentleman living in London; previously the property of a Sussex lady; acquired before 1990.
