Post Medieval Gold 'Vertue Passeth Riches' Posy Ring

18th century AD

A gold posy ring with running foliage design to the outer face, legend in italics to the inner face 'Vertue passeth riches' (with long 's') and maker's mark 'IC' possibly for John Cam, a London goldsmith active around 1740. 2.82 grams, 19mm overall, 17.54mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7, Europe 14.98, Japan 14) (3/4"). Fine condition, usage wear.

Property of a Gloucester gentleman; purchased Bristol, UK, 2018.
