Byzantine Gold Jewelled Ring

14th century AD

A gold finger ring with granulation to the hoop, three radiating cells each with an turquoise cabochon, quatrefoil bezel with four openwork domes, lateral cells with inset turquoise, pearl and glass cabochons around a central cabochon garnet. 7.37 grams, 28.06mm overall, 20.38mm internal diameter (approximate size British R, USA 8 1/2, Europe 19.38, Japan 18) (1"). Fine condition. A large wearable size.

Property of a London gentleman; acquired on the London art market in 2009; previously in an old English collection; accompanied by an independent specialist report and valuation by graduate gemmologist and jewellery expert Anna Rogers, GIA GG, BA, Gem-A, ref. no.163720/1/9/2020.
