ITALIC GILT-STUDDED BELT CLOSURE

Circa 4th century BC. A fabricated bronze two-piece belt closure comprising: a rectangular plate with three transverse D-section bars, hooked at one end and folded at the other, the plate and bars decorated with gilt domed studs on the inner and outer faces in a geometric layout; a pair of rectangular plates with three transverse folded bars, pierced in three places and decorated on the outer face only with gilt domed studs. Copper-alloy and gilt, 35 grams, 90 mm; 27 grams, 90 mm. [2]

Condition
Very fine condition.

Provenance
Ex Filk collection, formed in the 1950's.

Footnotes
The three hooks on the single plate engage with the corresponding holes in the double plate.
