Anglo-Saxon Gilt Button Brooch

6th century AD

A gilt bronze button brooch of Avent's Class A(ii) with flange to the rim, inner collar, central helmetted mask with scaphoid mouth; remains of lug and catch to the reverse. 2.4 grams, 16mm (3/4"). Very fine condition.

Property of a West Sussex, UK, gentleman; found by his grandfather in West Sussex in the early 1990s.
