Roman Garnet Cabochon in Gold Ring

2nd-3rd century AD

A garnet cabochon set in a gold cell with carinated shoulder and flange, papyrus-stalk panels to the shoulders and broad hoop. 5.88 grams, 29mm overall, 16.28mm internal diameter (approximate size British K 1/2, USA 5 1/2, Europe 11.0, Japan 10) (1 1/4"). Fine condition.

Provenance
From the David John Dennis collection of ancient jewellery; acquired on the UK art market in the early 2000s.
