INDIAN GANESH ELEPHANT GOD TORSO

Circa 12th century AD. A cast copper-alloy figurine of Ganesh from central India; the figure standing with drum-like headdress; the face with lentoid eyes, D-shaped ears, one tusk customarily shown broken; the torso rounded, with sacred thread draped across his left shoulder in the form of a serpent; the shoulders developing to four arms; the lower body with decorated garments; supplied with custom-made base. Copper-alloy, 12.2 kg. including base, 43 cm

Condition
Very fine condition, arms and lower legs lost in antiquity, some loss to head and stomach. Extremely rare.

From an old English collection.
