EGYPT 1882 MEDAL - TO CAPT. COXN. P. BROWN, HMS IRIS

1882-1889. Dated type with straight swivel suspension and ribbon. Obv: Victoria with VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX legend. Rev: Sphinx with EGYPT above and 1882 date below. Edge: engraved Royal Navy style P. BROWN . CAPT: COXN: H.M.S. IRIS legend. Clasps: none. Silver, 35.81 grams, 36 mm.

Condition
Very fine with contact marks.

Literature
BBM 87 (297 awarded to HMS Iris); MY 131(i).

Footnotes
HMS Iris was the first British naval ship of steel construction, launched Pembroke 1877. Percy Brown was then rated able seaman, aged 22 years, born Woolwich, Kent.
