Medieval Eagle Attacking Lamb Carving

13th-15th century AD

A large block of pink imbrignite carved with an eagle attacking a lamb in high-relief within a recessed border; socket to the upper face, slot to the underside. 59 kg, 59cm (23 1/4"). Fine condition. Rare.

Provenance
Property of a English gentleman; formerly the property of a Munich collector; previously acquired in the 1980s. Supplied with geologic report No. TL003172, by geologic consultant Dr R. L. Bonewitz.
