Egyptian Diorite Bust of a Dignitary

Middle Kingdom, 2050-1652 BC

A diorite bust of a male dignitary wearing a khat headdress; eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth executed in varying degrees of detail; remains of a vertical dorsal pillar with partial hieroglyphs; mounted on a custom-made stand. 2 kg total, 20.3cm including stand (8"). Fine condition.

Property of a gentleman living in central London; formerly in the collection of Jean-Paul Bourgis, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, 1980; accompanied by an archaeological expertise by Dr. Raffaele D’Amato and a geological scholarly report no.TL5407 by Dr Ronald Bonewitz; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.10711-175407.
