Circa 49-51 AD, Romano-British copying Lugdunum. Obv: TI CLAVD CAESAR AVG P M TR P X IMP P P legend with laureate bust right. Rev: triumphal arch inscribed DE BRITANN surmounted by Claudius mounted. 2.84 grams.
Extremely fine, very rare.

FOOTNOTES:
The type commemorating the Claudian invasion of 43 AD and the subsequent colonisation of Britain. From the hoard of approximately 170 fourre Claudius denarii found in 1995 near Wortham in Suffolk. These imitations were likely made in Britain around 50-51 AD.
