BYZANTINE GOLD BRACELET WITH CROSS AND LIONS
5TH-6TH CENTURY AD
3 1/4" (74 grams, 79mm overall).

A sheet gold bracelet with openwork band, false hinge, discoid plaque; the band with incised crescents to the borders, openwork symmetrical frieze of a regardant peacock with tail fanned, roundel with reserved cross botonny, lion with raised tail advancing towards a hatched crescent; false hinge with granulated pin; raised discoid boss with pellets to the openwork sidewall, chamfered central openwork panel with cross botonny surrounded by radiating arcs, four discs to the band.

PROVENANCE:
Property of a London gentleman; acquired 1995. Accompanied by a positive X-Ray Fluorescence metal analysis certificate.

Accompanied by an Art Loss Register certificate.
