Large Gandharan Buddha Torso

3rd-4th century AD

A carved schist statue fragment of Buddha standing with right hand raised palm-outwards in the mudhra of reassurance, pleated dhoti with draped swags, segmented collar and draped necklace, lotus-shaped censer in the left hand; mounted on a custom-made stand. 73.3 kg, 100cm including stand (39 1/4"). Fine condition.

Provenance
Property of a London collector, acquired early 1990s.
