Large Gandharan Buddha Frieze Section

2nd-3rd century AD

A section of carved schist frieze with central facing figure of Buddha on a lotus-flower dais flanked by standing bodhisattvas and smaller attendants, boughs of the bodhi tree above, base with frieze of fronds and flowers below; mounted on a custom-made stand. 99.1 kg, 96.5cm including stand (38"). Fine condition.

Property of a London collector, acquired early 1990s.
