Gandharan Bodhisattva Torso

1st-3rd century AD

A carved schist statue fragment of a Bodhisattva (Shakyamuni?) standing with palms pressed together on the chest, loosely draped mantle to the hips and left arm, collar of graduated discs and segmented belt; mounted on a custom-made stand. 17.2 kg, 67cm including stand (26 1/4"). Fair condition.

Provenance
Private collection, South West London; acquired before 2000.
