Egyptian Black Granite Statue Fragment

Late New Kingdom, 1292-1069 BC

A carved granite fragment depicting a seated male figure, possibly an official, wearing a kilt, arms resting on his lap; with inscription to the reverse pillar beginning 'an offering for…'; the remainder garbled, and the whole possibly a later addition, with old inked collector's number '44' below. 2.6 kg, 14cm (5 1/2"). Fair condition. [No Reserve]

Provenance
From the private collection of a New York collector; part of his family collection since at least the early 1970s; thence by descent from his grandfather in 1975.
