Early Islamic Animal-Faced Jug

8th-9th century AD

A terracotta jug with a tear-shaped body, tapering cylindrical neck with stylised animal head terminal, loop handle, near vertical cylindrical spout and plinth foot, the upper body decorated with dense panels of painted geometric motifs, applied features to the animal head and collar. 431 grams, 19cm (7 1/2"). Fine condition.
